Coonawarra is the Limestone Coast’s leading wine region, situated a comfortable four-hour drive south-east of Adelaide and four and a half hours west of Melbourne. Or those with a little more time on their hands can visit via the scenic routes of the world-renowned Great Ocean Road if coming from Melbourne, or via the spectacular Coorong National Park if coming from Adelaide.

Once you arrive, you will find more than 24 picturesque cellar doors and the historic town of Penola calling Coonawarra their home. Being close together and well signposted makes the region’s wineries arguably some of the most relaxed and enjoyable to explore.

The unique combination of the region’s famous terra rossa soil, and a long, cool ripening season results in grapes with exceptional flavour, intensity and structure. This is why Coonawarra has become internationally renowned for producing premium wines, in particular, Cabernet Sauvignon. The cool climate is also well-suited to sparkling wines, Chardonnay and aromatic whites like Sauvignon Blanc and Gewurztraminer.
